Fylde Waste – Why Recycle?
At Fylde Waste Removal we’re extremely proud of our 96% recycle rate. We believe that all householders have a responsibility to the environment to recycle responsibly, and we as a waste removal company should encourage this wherever possible. It is important that we retain the trust of our clients to dispose of their waste in an environmentally friendly way wherever possible.
Whilst many of our clients uphold similar views and are keen to recycle, we do still find that some clients don’t see the value in recycling. Their reasons or objections can vary:
All those bins!
Some householders bemoan the number of different bins that must be stored and taken out for the council to empty, stating that they take up too much room and it can become confusing knowing which bin is for which waste material.
For Fylde Council residents, here is a summary:
Grey bin | Non-recyclable waste |
Blue bin | Glass bottles, jars, plastic bottles, clean food and drink cans, empty aerosol cans, clean tin foil and aluminium trays |
Brown bin | Cardboard, newspapers and magazines, paper, greeting cards and wrapping paper |
Green bin | Food waste, grass cuttings, garden waste, leaves, flowers, weeds and real Christmas trees |
For large amounts of waste, Fylde Waste Removal can help. We will take your waste away and sort it in much the same way as “bingate” by taking it to licensed centres.
Not enough time/inconvenient to recycle
This is often the reason for householders not recycling – it is a typical arms folded, pursed lips, defiant response to being asked to time out of their day for something they don’t see the point of. The increased complexity of multiple bins for different waste hasn’t helped to dispel this approach to recycling. Yes there is a certain amount of “recycle management” required in households which can sometimes lead to domestic rows over what should be recycled and where it should be put, but soon enough a family can recycle on auto pilot and not notice the time being committed to the cause!
Why bother?
There are so many conflicting reports in the media regarding climate change and the benefits of recycling that some householders feel justified in throwing their arms in the air with a triumphant “I told you so”, followed swiftly with a “why bother then?”.
Here are some of the reasons why Fylde Waste Removal support recycling:
Recycling saves landfill space and the cost of providing and operating a landfill site. An increase in the number of landfill sites will not only be awful for those living nearby, but it would also have a hugely detrimental effect on wildlife and the environment
Replacing items that could be recycled creates pollution. Recycling reduces our carbon footprint. By recycling products we are reducing the manufacture of replacement products and the related harmful carbon gasses, thereby creating a cleaner environment
Recycling conserves energy. Recycling reduces the need to draw down on raw materials which saves energy. Consequently, wildlife habitats are not destroyed and less water is used to make goods from recycled materials
Don’t forget the ozone layer! The decomposition of waste in a landfill produces methane gas underground. The ground has to be drilled to release the methane gas which has a detrimental effect on the ozone layer
Some interesting facts from your council on recycling:
Over 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the grey bin could be recycled
If all cans in the UK were recycled, we would need 14 million fewer grey bins
Glass is 100% recyclable and can be used again and again
Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution than if it was made from raw materials
1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours
